Match Report

This is the innings that made the world stop and stare.

Chasing 210 against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Vaibhav Suryavanshi played one of the greatest IPL innings of all time. He scored an unbeaten 101 off 38 balls — 11 sixes and 7 fours — at a strike rate of 265.79.

His century came in just 35 balls, breaking Yusuf Pathan's long-standing record of 37 balls for the fastest IPL century by an Indian. At 14 years and 32 days, he also became the youngest centurion in the history of men's T20 cricket.

The chase of 210 was supposed to be challenging. Vaibhav made it look like a training session. RR reached the target in 15.5 overs — with more than 25 balls to spare. The Gujarat Titans bowlers had no answers. Every length was punished. Short balls were pulled over midwicket. Full deliveries were lofted over long-off. Good-length balls were driven through extra cover.

The 11 sixes were hit to all parts of the ground — a 360-degree display of power hitting that drew comparisons to AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle. But this was a 14-year-old. The cricketing world had never seen anything like it.

After the match, even the Gujarat Titans players could be seen applauding. Social media records were broken: the knock generated over 2 million tweets in 24 hours. "We're watching the birth of a phenomenon," wrote ESPNcricinfo.
