Historic Debut: Vaibhav made his Ranji Trophy debut for Bihar vs Mumbai in January 2024 at just 12 years and 284 days old, becoming the youngest Indian First-Class debutant since 1986. He was named Bihar's vice-captain for the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season at age 14 — the youngest vice-captain in Indian domestic cricket history. While his red-ball numbers are a work in progress (100 runs in 10 innings), the experience of playing first-class cricket at 12 accelerated his white-ball development immeasurably.

The Stepping Stone
Vaibhav's domestic career — though brief — was the foundation for everything that followed. His Ranji Trophy debut at 12 gave him first-class experience that no other player his age had. The Vijay Hazare Trophy record innings (190 off 84) caught the attention of IPL scouts and India selectors. Without these domestic performances, his IPL career and India debut might have come much later.
